Domain and Sub-domain names for your web site. A domain called liecester-vetinary-surgery.com is more indicative of site relevance than one based on the company name such as JilesAndSons.com. There are some exceptions to this rule, and in certain cases it can be worth linking multiple domains some representing your company name and others facets of your business. Always remember though, that your primary objective must be to promote your site&amp;#146;s visibility in terms of what you offer rather than who you are. &lt;br&gt;
Filenames and Directory names for site components. If your html is stored in a file called &amp;#145;budget_power_tools.html&amp;#148; within a folder called &amp;#145;DIY_Carpentry_Supplies&amp;#146; there is a good chance this that the content relates to supplies of budget power tools for DIY Carpentry. In any case this is far more suggestive than simply storing the page under &amp;#145;\shop\tools.html&amp;#146; or worse yet &amp;#145;\dir-x\file-02.html&amp;#146;. This applies also to the names for other components making up your web pages, like multimedia files. &lt;br&gt;
Page Title as documented within the HTML Title tag which then appears in the title area of the recipients browser. Most Search Engines assign significant value to the page Title. &lt;br&gt;
Page Description as documented within the HTML Description Meta tag which sometimes appears in the search engine listings. &lt;br&gt;
The contents of the Keywords Meta tag which was intended to provide simple search related meta information on a given page content. Most search engines no longer assign much relevance to this as it is too open to abuse, particularly as it&amp;#146;s content isn&amp;#146;t visible within the page as shown within a browser. However, this should still document your key target search terms even if the main value will be derived in their usage elsewhere within the page and web site. &lt;br&gt;
The actual text of the web page. Many search engines analyze this. Most like to see a few hundred words and attempt to extract key search terms both in terms of where and how often these appear within the text. It is assumed that phrases which are often repeated and which also appear within the first few sentences are likely to be particularly relevant. Make sure these are your target search terms. &lt;br&gt;
Graphic elements should be documented with machine readable rollover text called &amp;#145;alt text&amp;#146; primarily for visually handicapped people relying on automated readers. These provide another source to help the search engines determine relevance. It worth noting that alt text provides a useful means of adding value to your graphics for all your site visitors as well as being an extra device to emphasize certain preferred search terms. &lt;br&gt;
Internal Links. Again search engines may analyze the actual link text. So rather than simply link a meaningless filename its better to the use the link text to describe what it is being pointed to, especially if in so doing you can use your top search phrase for the destination page. &lt;br&gt;
The same is true for the text of incoming External Links. Additionally, some engines will assign these special significance as a potential independent vote of confidence. However, now that ever resourceful web masters have sought to exploit this by building link farms and link exchange programs, search engines like Google are already becoming more circumspect about evaluating incoming links. &lt;br&gt;

Further more, the spiders themselves will often ignore pages with addresses comprising &amp;#145;?&amp;#146;, &amp;#145;=&amp;#146; and &amp;#145;&amp;&amp;#146; symbols. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
A workaround is to ask your developers to remove all such symbols from page addresses. A useful technique for this is to create a lookup table with equivalent &amp;#145;static&amp;#146; addresses &amp;#150; this can also help where simple character substitution techniques generate overly long multi level addresses. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
